Type-2 diabetes:

Type-2 diabetes:

Type 2 diabetes is becoming more prevalent among the overweight, obese ad inactive. It typically strikes after the age of 50, but it is increasingly being seen among younger peopledue to their sedentary lifestyle. Type 2 (mature-age on set) diabetes results from the inability of the body to efficiently utilise insulin, a harmone secreated by the pancreas to remove glucose(sugar) from the blood stream and transport it to the body’s cells to fuel activity. Excess weight appears to interfare with insulin’s ability to be sufficiently effective, resulting in high blood glucose levels, which requires medication and possibly insulin injections. Uncontrolled high blood glucose levels can lead to unnecessary complications such as blindness, peripheral neutropathy, kidney problems and heart disease. Losing weight and participating in extra activity(exercise) could help prevent the problem from developing particularly in people with a family history of type 2 diabetes, which is hereditary.
